The route takes you past the three towns that together form the municipality of Gooise Meren: Bussum, Naarden and Muiden. Naarden is best known for its star-shaped fortress, one of the best preserved in Europe. You will find the Dutch Fortress Museum in the Turfpoort bastion. More history can be found in Muiden, which is a little further away. Incidentally, not only in the beautiful Muiderslot, a moated castle from the fourteenth century. Vesting Muiden, also known as the Muizenfort, has two bunkers on the outside area that can be reached via trenches. Weesp is also a fortified town. The star shape can still be found on the map, but the fortress was never completed due to a lack of money. The fortresses of Weesp were part of the Dutch Waterline and the Defense Line of Amsterdam. In Nederhorst den Berg you will find De Nederhorst Castle. The Toonder studios have been there for a while, which is why the castle is also called Bommelstein.
