Do you always find it difficult to choose between a quiet cycle route through nature or a bustling route through cities? Then go for this route that combines both elements. You cycle through the cheese city of Alkmaar with its rich history, but you also cycle through the dunes in the area of Egmond aan Zee.
Cheese city Alkmaar
At the start of the route, you cycle a short distance through Alkmaar. This historic city is bursting with beautiful buildings. You will find no fewer than 399 national monuments. It is therefore definitely recommended to explore the historic centre of Alkmaar on foot before or after your bike ride. Walking route 213299 is a perfect route to explore Alkmaar. Then you cycle via Egmond aan Zee into the beautiful dunes. Smell the salty scent of the sea and completely relax here.
The Robonsbosmolen
Just before you cycle back into Alkmaar you will pass the Robonsbosmolen. This mill was built in 1781 to drain the Munnikenpolder, the Ravenpolder and the Robonsbospolder. Over the centuries the mill was damaged by fire and a storm, which meant that the mill could no longer turn. Around 1971 the mill was restored and converted into a house.
