Cycling between the Maas and the Waal

The banks of the Waal
You get on your bike in Beuningen and from here you cycle to the banks of the Waal. During the first part of the route you can enjoy the rippling water of the river and the green floodplains that you cycle over for miles. After just over twenty kilometers of cycling you will pass the De Drie Wuiven mill from 1869. You then cycle via Afferden through a quiet and green area to the bank of the Maas. You cycle more than ten kilometers along the Maas and then you pass the Maasmolen from 1741.

Lunchroom Special enjoyment
Lunchroom Special enjoyment in Beuningen is the start and end point of the route. Here you can take a seat after your bike ride to enjoy a cup of coffee or a tasty lunch. The menu includes luxurious sandwiches, homemade soup and meal salads. Enough choice to replenish your energy supplies.

The Land of Maas and Waal
Until about 1800, the area between the Maas and the Waal was called the Ambt van Maas en Waal. In some places the border of this area did not completely line up with the Meuse. North Brabant places such as Oijen and Dieden also belonged to the Ambt, even though they were located south of the Maas. Only from 1805 onwards was the Maas used as a provincial border.
