Tour of Raalte and surroundings

This route takes you through the Sallandse Land around Raalte. You cycle to Heeten on low-traffic roads. You drive past vast meadows, but also past fields and small woods. Further on you cycle along one of the side branches of the Overijssels Canal. This section runs from Lemelerveld to Deventer and was opened in 1858. In 1988 the canal was closed to shipping. Raalte is a nice town. You can see here, among other things, the Basilica of the Holy Exaltation of the Cross, a neo-Gothic church from 1892. Then you drive along the rippling water of the Overijssels Canal. You can enjoy the peace and the swaying reed collars here. You cycle to Haarle via the village of Luttenberg. Time for a cozy terrace at Eetcafe De Droadnagel.
