Tour Gees and Westerbork from Zwinderen

From here you drive to the green village of Westerbork, not to be confused with the World War II deportation camp of the same name, which is located a short distance away. The route then takes you to Meppen. Back you cycle through the ancient village of Gees. Here you will find old streets and Saxon farms that are reminiscent of times long past. A nice change from the quiet nature reserves that are common in this region. An enormous boulder weighing thirty thousand kilos is the great pride of the village. In the early 1960s, these boulders were found in the soil of a field. Gees has no dolmens, but it is likely that people lived in this area in the last phase of the Stone Age.
