Fortified town of Coevorden
Coevorden used to have an important place in the Netherlands. It was one of the most important fortified cities. This was mainly due to the favourable location of the city on the route from Groningen to Munster. Travellers had to pass through this castle city and that made the city interesting for merchants and generals. The rest of the population followed automatically. Coevorden Castle from the 11th century still reminds us of this glory time of Coevorden.
