Description

This route makes maximum use of the route along the Linde, from the Driewegsluis to De Hoeve you can enjoy the extraordinary beauty of this area. The road to it goes down the moraine, past Steenwijkerwold, Paasloo, Oldemarkt and Ossenzijl. On the way back, the noble estate De Eese is visited.

Wooded banks
There are many wooded banks in the area around Steenwijkerwold. Wooded banks are landscape and ecologically important due to the wide variety of plant and animal species. The slope of the rampart offers variation in wet/dry and warm/cold. The sunny side is then especially interesting for insects, amphibians and reptiles, the shady side for ferns and mosses. There are often species that are hardly found in the area outside the hedgerows, such as honeysuckle, periwinkle and dew nettle.

The Linde
In the disaster year of 1672, the Linde Line was constructed along the Linde to turn Bishop Bernhard van Galen van Münster, which ran from the Zwartendijksterschans west of Een to Slijkenburg. The remains of the Bekhofschans south of Oldeberkoop can still be found along the Linde. In defense of Friesland, the Lindedal was even flooded during the attack by Bernhard van Galen in 1672.

The Tjasker De Hoeve
The Tjasker De Hoeve is a polder mill near the village of De Hoeve, which is located in the Dutch municipality of Weststellingwerf. This ready-to-grind paaltjasker was built in 1975 and placed at the water pipes of a duck decoy on the Oudvaart near Sneek. The mill was demolished and stored in 1980, but later relocated to its current location. The tjasker is a municipal monument.

The Eese
The first mention of the name De Eese dates from 1241 and appears in the personal name Bernard van de Eese. Around 1400 De Eese was a hamlet near an ash. A number of residents later separated from this village and founded the village of Eesveen. In 1923, Herman van Karnebeek, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, bought the estate from Onnes van Nijenrode. Van Nijenrode had already started a farm on the estate and Van Karnebeek wants to use this to further exploit the Eese.
