Description
National Park De Alde Feanen is located a bit outside the city of Leeuwarden. This unique low moor area is a true showpiece of Friesland with lakes, reed beds and swamp forests. This route takes you through the nature reserve and through the city of Leeuwarden and a few small villages.
Nature reserve De Alde Feanen
The start and end point of this cycle route is located in the middle of De Alde Feanen at Hotel Restaurant Princenhof. Here you can drink a nice cup of coffee before departure or book an overnight stay. At the start of the route you cycle through National Park De Alde Feanen, a low moor area of 2280 hectares. The area consists of various wet landscape types full of plants and animals. You will find more than a hundred species of breeding birds in this area, including the bearded male, the bluethroat and the marsh harrier. Highly recommended for bird lovers.
Culture in Leeuwarden
Leeuwarden is a city with an attractive and green center. You will find hundreds of monuments on the canals, you can visit one of the museums or go shopping. Around the center you will mainly find nature and wetlands that have a lot to offer water sports enthusiasts. Leeuwarden has been declared European Capital of Culture 2018.
