Walking route Diemerbos and Community Polder

Just outside Diemen you can take a walk through nature. First you walk through the Diemerbos, an urban forest that gives you the feeling of being away from it all. The Community Polder was once located here, which was reclaimed in the twelfth century and slowly changed into a peat meadow landscape. East of the A9 you walk through a remnant of this open polder land. On the river Gaasp you will pass the Community windmill. This polder mill dates from 1708 and was used to drain the area behind it. Around node 25 you walk into the part of the Diemerbos where nature is allowed to take its course, so that there is now a swamp forest. So make sure you have sturdy shoes. At House of Bird it is time for a terrace.
