Description
Would you like to enjoy the view over seemingly endless polders, cycle along the water or would you rather discover a city by bike? It is sometimes difficult to choose, but fortunately that is not always necessary. This route takes you through Hasselt and Zwolle, along the IJssel and through a beautiful polder landscape.
Polder area Mastenbroek
The first kilometers of this cycle route take you through Mastenbroek, one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. There used to be a large swamp forest here, but that forest was reclaimed in the 14th century to make extra space for arable farming. Nowadays maize is mainly grown in this quiet area. You then cycle a bit along the IJssel until you enter the historic Hanseatic city of Zwolle. You cycle along the edge of Zwolle for a while and then continue your route in the direction of Zwolle.
Polder area Mastenbroek

From manor house to country house
Huize Den Doorn used to be a manor house. At the end of the 19th century, part of this house was demolished and rebuilt. At that time, the building took on the shape it still has today. The other buildings that used to be on this estate have all disappeared. Only the farmhouse that was built in the 19th century next to the house still stands. Between 1955 and 1967 the house was extensively restored.
