Historical sights in Arnhem
The pleasant centre of Arnhem is the starting point of this route. Before you get on your bike, you can admire the Eusebius Church. This church was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of Arnhem during the Second World War, but you can no longer see anything of it. The John Frost Bridge, which you cycle over at the beginning of the route, also has a history that is related to the war. The bridge is named after the British lieutenant colonel who reached this bridge with his unit during the Battle of Arnhem. He did not succeed in conquering the bridge completely.

Detour via the Veluwe
Via Oosterbeek and past Vliegbasis Deelen you then cycle to the Veluwe. The forests here seem endless and the area is hilly. Via Wageningen and Rhenen you then cycle into the heart of Nijmegen. So you do not cycle directly from Arnhem to Nijmegen, but you make a trip to the Veluwe and the Betuwe.

The Grebberg
Just before Rhenen you will encounter an obstacle on the route: the Grebberg. This climb may be short, but it is steep. Not steep enough to be included in the mountain classification of the Giro, but for recreational cyclists this climb will still be tough. Keep that in mind. Are you up for an adventurous ride, but do you find the route too long to cycle in one go? Then split the route into several parts and spread it over several days. Bring your own tent and spend the night at campsites or rest in a nice hotel along the way. Then such a long route is a lot easier to conquer.
