This route shows you two Drenthe faces. You cycle through a few historic green villages, but also through former peat colonies. All in a quiet and open landscape of vast meadows, small forests and heaths. While cycling you can regularly admire monumental buildings, such as Saxon farms. In Esdorp Dalen you will pass the Reformed Church from the fifteenth century. You can also see windmill de Bente, a flour mill from 1814. In Sleen you cycle past flour mill De Hoop from 1914 and the impressive monumental town hall from 1938. In Esdorp Gees you will see something typical of Drenthe: a boulder. This specimen is almost four meters long and over two meters high. It is the largest in Drenthe. You will also pass by De Kippesthee Coffee & Tea, be sure to get off here!

The name of this coffee brewery was soon found: it is not for nothing that you are here in't Haantje. The terrace of De Kippesthee is also part of a chicken farm with broilers.'t Haantje falls under the municipality of Coevorden and borders the municipality of Borger-Odoorn and the municipality of Emmen. A wonderful cycling and walking area! The spacious terrace with a view over the farmlands can be found on the edge of the village, at the fork of the road to Kibbelveen. Right in front of the terrace is a junction sign, number 34. Not to be missed!

Between Dalen and Coevorden you can take a look at the De Bente windmill. The current mill was built in 1814. Before that, another mill stood here, but it went up in flames in 1813 during a raid by the French.
