Description

This route shows you two Drenthe faces. You cycle through a few historic green villages, but also through former peat colonies. All in a quiet and open landscape of vast meadows, small forests and heaths. While cycling you can regularly admire monumental buildings, such as Saxon farms. In Esdorp Dalen you will pass the Reformed Church from the fifteenth century. You can also see windmill de Bente, a flour mill from 1814. In Sleen you cycle past flour mill De Hoop from 1914 and the impressive monumental town hall from 1938. In Esdorp Gees you will see something typical of Drenthe: a boulder. This specimen is almost four meters long and over two meters high. It is the largest in Drenthe. You will also pass by De Kippesthee Coffee & Tea, be sure to get off here!
