Description
This route takes you through Volendam, Monnickendam, and the island of Marken. You'll cycle through the vast polders of Laag Holland, the unique, quintessential Dutch landscape below sea level. In Monnickendam, you can admire the historic city center full of houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Take a break at the atMirror in Monnickendam! Then, cycle to Experience Volendam. With virtual reality glasses, you can experience the 1916 flood disaster that struck Waterland. Take the ferry to Marken. The Rond Marken Excursion will teach you more about the history of this peninsula. The Paard van Marken (The Horse of Marken) is an iconic lighthouse dating from 1839. Enjoy a refreshing break at Bistro de Verkeerde Wereld. The Waterlandse Zeedijk then takes you back to the mainland.
