The Second World War did not pass unnoticed in Nijmegen and the surrounding area. The city itself was liberated in September 1944 during Operation Market Garden by the Allies. This did not go without a struggle and all kinds of things happened in the Nijmegen area during the war. Let these stories come to life on this bike tour.

In Nijmegen, at least 48 soldiers died during the liberation. This happened when crossing the river Waal, in the hope of capturing the bridge from the German troops from the other side. There was also heavy fighting around Groesbeek, located a stone's throw from the German Reichswald. American paratroopers landed in the hills around the village and then moved towards Nijmegen.
