Tour of Overbetuwe

The Over-Betuwe region is ideal for beautiful cycling trips. Be surprised by the variety the Over-Betuwe has to offer. You'll cycle along and over waterways such as the Linge River, the longest river in the Netherlands, which you'll cross twice on this route. In good weather, you can take a refreshing dip at both the Slijk-Ewijk recreational lake and the Rijkerswoerdse Plassen. A unique structure you'll encounter along this cycle route is the weir complex at Driel, which divides the water flowing into our country via the Rhine between the Nederrijn and Lek rivers and the IJssel rivers.

Beautiful farms with lush apple and cherry orchards abound in the Over-Betuwe region. Buy your cherries and apples directly from the farmer or pick them yourself on special picking days. Visit De Grote Doorn farm shop in Slijk-Ewijk for fresh goat's milk cheeses and roasted nuts. From April onwards, the magnificent blossoms are a reason for many to cycle, walk, or drive through the Over-Betuwe region.

Of course, the Over-Betuwe Circuit will also take you through several villages, including Valburg, Heteren, and the slightly larger Elst. You'll also cycle past attractions such as the Museum Farm 'Den Tip' in Herveld, the beautiful castle gardens of the Hemmen Estate, the Information Center: The Poles of Driel, and the Betuwe War Museum 'The Island' 1944-1945 in Heteren. The authentic and famous horse market in Elst attracts many visitors every first Monday in September. In short, there's plenty to do in the Over-Betuwe region!
