Description
Rotterdam is more than ports and high-rise buildings. This urban area also has surprisingly rural and water-rich areas. This route takes you along the typical Dutch river landscape and the green recreational areas of Rotterdam.
The starting point is on the edge of the city. Via the centuries-old Nesserdijk you leave the city behind you. Soon the industry and residential areas make way for a rustic Dutch river landscape.
On the Groenendijk you will find a monument in memory of the flood disaster in 1953. Here a hole was closed with the help of an inland vessel to prevent a large part of South Holland from being flooded.
At Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel the river makes way for the Zevenhuizerplas. You will then find your way back to the city via the Rotte and the Kralingse Plas.
