Description
The Oisterwijkse Bossen en Vennen nature reserve is located in the area between Oisterwijk, Boxtel and Moergestel. Walk along winding paths along the many beautiful fens that can be found here and enjoy it to the fullest.
Centuries-old fens
This route takes you straight through the forests of this nature reserve. Along the way you pass one pond after another. Most of the fens in this area were created by strong south-westerly storms that blew away sand centuries ago. Elongated depressions remained on the plain that filled with rainwater. This water remained standing and eventually fens formed here. The Kolkven is an exception to this, because this fen was carved out by the swirling water of an old river. Along the fens you will find sandy paths with benches where you can sit down and take some time to take in the view.

At the time, the forest consisted mainly of pine fields, but over the centuries Natuurmonumenten has ensured that this became a more varied forest. The forests are now a popular habitat for woodpeckers and other birds. You will not miss the drumming of these birds on tree trunks when you walk around here.
