Walking through Pajottenland

This walk takes you through the heart of the Pajottenland, a beautiful oasis of space, greenery and silence in Flemish Brabant. You walk through a rolling landscape of fields, meadows and streams. A lovely region that the locals like to call the Tuscany of the North.

Old square farms
On your route you pass some of those typical Belgian chapels. You will also see beautiful characteristic farms. On the Trontingenstraat, for example, you will pass Hoeve Trontingen, a semi-enclosed farm from 1854. A lot further south you will walk past the whitewashed farm of Hof te Bree-Eik, one of the largest and most impressive square farms in the Pajottenland. This once noble residence dates from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Gaasbeek
The route starts in small Gaasbeek, one of the 50 most beautiful villages in Flanders. The leafy village square with the centuries-old church, presbytery and historic pillory is a protected village view. Afterwards you can enjoy a drink on a terrace in Gaasbeek. Fan of local beer? In the Pajottenland, Lambic is still produced according to an authentic process. With origins dating back to 1300, it is undoubtedly one of the oldest beers still in existence.
