Ter Apel
There are some beautiful early nineteenth-century hall farms on your route. In Ter Haar you will pass the mill of the same name. It is the only original post mill in Groningen. It was built in Bourtange around 1619 and moved to Ter Haar in 1832. At Ter Apel you will pass the famous medieval Crosier monastery from 1465, a building that is among the Top 100 of Dutch UNESCO monuments. Here you can walk through the herb garden and visit an exhibition.

Kloosterbos
At the monastery you cycle through forests that were planted around 800 and are among the oldest in Groningen. You will see large, imposing old oaks and beech trees. As befits a monastery forest, it is wonderfully quiet here. Sellingen is a beautiful medieval esdorp, the eye-catcher is the village church from 1300. At Holiday Park De Barkhoorn you can enjoy a coffee or a tasty meal before heading back into nature.

Legend of Hasseberg
The route takes you a short distance through the German Emsland. When you leave Germany again, you immediately cross the top of the Hasseberg. This hill, located more than 14 meters above sea level, is the highest point in the province of Groningen. Part of the hill was excavated during the peat extraction period. There is another legend associated with the hill. The name is said to come from Hashe, an old woman who, according to folk tradition, lit a fire here at night to lure lonely travelers into the surrounding swamp so that they drowned.
