Sneek is best known as one of the Frisian towns on the route of the Elfstedentocht. However, you can also enjoy a lovely walk through the historic center and the green suburbs. The old center of Sneek enjoys a protected cityscape for a reason. There are many old mansions and shophouses on the Kleinzand, some of which were built around 1790 in the Louis XVI style. One of the oldest sights is the Martini Church, which originally dates from the eleventh century. Two centuries-old bells from 1466 and 1543 still hang in the ancient clock house next to the church. The route ends at the cozy Hotel Grandcafe Stadsherberg Sneek. Choose a delicious dinner or a drink. If you want to see even more in this area the next day, book a room and stay overnight. You can also experience the fact that history is alive in Sneek in the two city museums. You pass the National Model Railway Museum, which is located in the restored Sneek station, a national monument from 1883.
