Description
A nice contrast to Orvelte is Witteveen, the youngest village in Drenthe. It is a reclamation village that emerged in 1926 as a job creation project on the Balingerveld. You also pass through the village of Westerbork, where you can stop at Restaurant-Museum De Ar. There is no shortage of nature in Drenthe. You drive through Schoonloo Forestry and the Orvelterzand, a beautiful nature reserve consisting of a moist heathland that is partly overgrown with trees. Orvelte is located in the middle of the Drenthe esdorp landscape. The village looks like an open-air museum given the many historical sights.
