Tour Wijk bij Duurstede, Schalkwijk and Houten

This route takes you through the beautiful surroundings of Houten. First you cycle to Wijk bij Duurstede. In this old town you can still see many beautiful historic buildings. Via the Princess Irene locks, completed in 1952, you cross the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Schalkwijk Island. Cycling along the dike, you look out over the vast meadows and the rippling water of the Lek. You pass the Werk aan de Waalse Wetering, a fort from 1878 that is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Further on you drive through the picturesque Schalkwijk.  In Werkhoven you can enjoy the historic atmosphere, after which you cycle through the polder to the end point: Camping't Boomgaardje.
