Island hopping in Zeeland

A day of getting some fresh air on the Zeeland coast is the ideal way to relax. This route takes you across the Zeeland islands of Schouwen-Duiveland, Noord-Beveland and Walcheren.

Neeltje Jans
You will soon drive over the Oosterscheldekering to Noord-Beveland. On one side is the North Sea, on the other side is the Oosterschelde. What views! Neeltje Jans served as a work island during the construction of the storm surge barrier. Over the years, wind and weather have turned Neeltje Jans into a beautiful dune landscape that is held together by marram grass and sea buckthorn. In 2015, André Greipel was the first to cross the line here in the second stage of the Tour.

Delicious Veere
Veere is one of the most beautiful fortified towns in the Netherlands. In this historic and atmospheric town you can admire the Grote Kerk from 1348, for example. The town hall with its beautiful facade dates from the fifteenth century. On the quay is the De Scottish Huizen Museum, which is housed in two sixteenth-century monuments. The Campveerse Toren dates back to 1500. At the end of the ride, something tasty awaits you at the cozy Pannekoekenmolen de Graanhalm.

Defense against Normans
Burgh originated around a ring wall that was erected at the end of the ninth century against raiding Normans. A footpath runs from Kerkstraat to the castle. The courtyard has been raised and the earth wall, including the wooden palisades, has been partially restored. A reconstruction of an entrance gate and a second path across the bridge have also been made. It gives you a beautiful impression of what the castle must have looked like ten centuries ago!
