Cycling around Dwingeloo in Drenthe

Around Dwingeloo you drive through a beautiful landscape of fields and meadows that are intersected by the Beilerstroom (also called Dwingelerstroom). Here and there you will find small-scale hedgerows. On the horizon are the forests of the Drents-Friese Wold and the Dwingelderveld.

Diever In the village of Diever you can visit the archaeological museum on the village green. This museum is located in the Schultehuis dating from 1604, the former official residence of the Schulte van Diever. A schulte was a kind of representative of central authority. The house has been preserved in its original state. Here you will also see De Vlijt, a flour mill from 1882. In Leggeloo and Lhee you will see a number of beautiful thatched farmhouses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Havezate Oldengaerde The Oldengaerde estate still has the age-old small-scale structure of agricultural yards and grand houses, of which the havezate is literally and figuratively the center. The manor originally dates from the beginning of the fifteenth century, but acquired its current classic appearance in 1717. There used to be eighteen estates in Drenthe, now only seven. Oldengaerde is one of the best preserved.
