Coevorden is an old fortified town that once lay on the route from Groningen to Münster. The star-shaped city canal, the street structure and historic buildings: they date from the period after the city fire of 1592. You will pass the Reformed Church from 1641, among other things. This is one of the first Protestant church buildings in the Netherlands. For centuries, the outer area of Coevorden was a large swamp area. Now you can enjoy cycling through a landscape of grassland, arable land and bushes. You drive a few kilometers along the Schoonebeekerdiep, a stream that marks the border between the Netherlands and Germany. Here you experience the characteristic Drenthe silence. On the way back you cycle along the Coevorden-Piccardie Canal that flows through the German peatland. After your ride you can enjoy delicious food at Hotel Restaurant Talens.
