Description

Around Schoonebeek it is wonderful to cycle through the vast silence of Drenthe. Your starting point is one of the oldest mining villages in Drenthe. The cultural history of Schoonebeek can be felt everywhere here. You will see Saxon farms, but also old-fashioned pumpjacks. In 1943, the second largest oil field on the mainland of Western Europe was found here. Oil was extracted until 1996. This route takes you from the oil village through picturesque towns such as Erica, Klazienaveen and Weiteveen. In the Bargerveen nature reserve you can imagine yourself in the home of hundreds of bird species.
