The charm of the old IJssel region

In the Oude IJsselstreek it is wonderful to make kilometers on the bicycle saddle. You drive through an old cultural landscape of bushes, farmland and streams. There is also plenty to enjoy along the banks of the Oude IJssel and the German Rhine.

House Landfort
In this area you will find beautiful old farms and stately country houses. On the Oude IJssel, for example, you will pass Huis Landfort, a castle with estate from the fifteenth century. The monumental house was extensively renovated in the eighteenth century. Just outside Stokkum you drive past Düffels Möll, a flour mill from 1860. In Megchelen you see the beautiful Sint-Martinuskerk, a national monument. It looks old, but was only completed in 1935.

Hanseatic city of Emmerich
In cozy Emmerich am Rhein you can see, among other things, the longest suspension bridge (1228 meters) in Germany, also known as the'Golden Gate vom Niederrhein\\\'. You can get a breath of fresh air at the Rijnkade. About 500 boats pass here every day. In the old city center you can see the Sint Aldegundiskerk and Sint-Martinikerk.
