Cycling through the natural beauty of Drenthe

Your tour goes through the woods of the Holtingerveld. Here and there, craters in the ground bear witness to a bombing raid on a German airfield that was located here in World War II. The Dwingelderveld National Park is a gem, with pine forests surrounding a vast wet heathland. The Zaandplatte is a beautiful thatched corn mill from 1625, near Ruinen. In 1964 the mill moved to this location from Echten. Get off at the Dwingelderveld Visitor Center, where you can learn all about the valuable heath landscape. A little further on is the Ruiner Schaapskooi with about 300 Drentse Heideschapen, an ancient breed.
