Eerde is the first village to be liberated by American paratroopers on September 17, 1944. Paratroopers landed here and captured, among other things, the mill at Eerde to use it as an observation post. A few days later, the village was deepened further. On September 24, German troops launched a counter-attack from the Eerdse Bergen. The mill was destroyed by the Germans. The Americans then moved their observation post to the church, but it was also destroyed in the fighting. However, Eerde remained in the hands of the Americans.
