The Kop van Overijssel has a high level of natural beauty and picturesque places. This route takes you through Steenwijk, Giethoorn and an open and watery landscape. First you drive to Buitengoed Fredeshiem for a cup of coffee or something tasty. Steenwijk is a former fortified town. It was located in a strategic location during the Eighty Years' War. Steenwijk has more than 60 national monuments, including De Markt and the city canals. The picturesque Giethoorn is known as the Venice of the North thanks to its many bridges and waterways. The oldest building in Giethoorn is located at Beulakerweg 80: the Reformed Church dates from 1645. In the area you have beautiful views of lakes such as the Molengat and the Bovenwijde. In old mining villages such as Nijeveen and Kolderveen you can still see beautiful hall farms.
