The first kilometers you cycle through the countryside of Doesburg. The Hanseatic city of Doesburg is one of the few Dutch cities that has been so well preserved. The medieval street pattern is still completely intact. In the beautifully restored old town you will see many characteristic monumental buildings and beautiful fortifications. You drive through the damp forests of Heekenbroek. Lots of butterflies live here, you might see the Emperor's Mantle fluttering by. You will soon arrive at the IJssel. It is wonderful to pedal along the banks with a view of the rippling water and the grasslands in the floodplains. In Dieren you pass the railway station. The steam locomotives and classic carriages of the VSM, or Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij, also depart from this station. Get off at Café Restaurant Den Bremer in Toldijk!
