Cycling through the woods near Reusel

There is plenty of natural beauty to be found around the Brabant village of Reusel. This route takes you through some quiet nature reserves, such as the Peelse Heide.

Estate de Utrecht
The first part of the route you cycle through a succession of nature reserves. You start in De Utrecht, a 2500-hectare estate just above Lage Mierde. You mainly cycle through coniferous forests, of the original heath there are still about 400 hectares left. A little later you cycle through the woods of the Wellenseindse Heide where the Panneven is located. At the Belgian border you will pass the Experience. In this quiet and natural part of Brabant you can imagine yourself in no man's land.

Monumental churches
You will also see the Sint-Petrus\\\'-Bandenkerk, dating from 1926, a national monument that stands out for its domed turrets. In Lage Mierde you can admire Sint-Stephanuskerk, the tower and nave date from the fifteenth century. The route ends at an attractive location: at the eighty-year-old Herberg"In den Bockenreyder\\\", you can enjoy a drink and a snack here.

Circles on the Peelheide
The route also takes you over De Peelse Heide, a heath reclamation area where mainly Scots pine grows. The cycle path leads you over two striking circles: the Groote Cirkel and the Kleine Cirkel. The Great Circle is said to correspond in size to the Place de l\\\'Étoile in Paris. Also, the distance from the Great Circle to the Little Circle would be the same as that between the Place de l\\\'Étoile and the Place de la Concorde. It is said that the idea of these circles came from an official who was involved in the development of the area in the 1930s. The circles were an important landmark for pilots during World War II.
