From Zorgvlied you can walk straight into the woods and heathland of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, one of the largest and quietest nature reserves in the Netherlands. With this walking route you will experience the beneficial effect of that Drenthe silence.

The Aekinger sand
The Aekingerzand, also called the Kale Duinen, is a very special sub-area of the national park. Here, wind and weather have free play and the shifting sand offers space for special animals such as the sand lizard and the comma butterfly. You walk along the Grenspoel, a jewel of a fen. A little further on is a watchtower. From above you have a beautiful view over the woods, heathland and the stream valley of the Vledder Aa. Be careful while walking, because vipers can be found in this area.

Strolling through Zorgvlied
Zorgvlied owes its name to Huize Zorgvlied, a villa that was built here in the nineteenth century by a distant relative of Admiral de Ruyter. The villa was demolished, but the name lived on. Zorgvlied is a beautiful village to take a quiet stroll through. There are two monuments: the large Catholic church from the 1920s and a smaller chapel that originally dates from 1785.
