This route takes you through the valley of the river De Linde in South-East Friesland. It is wonderful cycling here through a quiet stream landscape and through historic villages.
Bell tower
The villages in this region are full of beautiful historical buildings. The Bonifatius church in Makkinga dates from 1777, the mill de Weijert is a corn mill from 1868. Oldeberkoop enjoys a protected village view, here you can find a Bonifatius church from the twelfth century. In Boijl you can find one of the oldest Frisian bell towers. The accompanying church dates from the thirteenth century.
Language border
The small river Tjonger forms the language border between Frisian and Low Saxon, which is spoken south of this waterway. It is nice to make miles in the river valley. You drive through a varied landscape of grasslands, small forests and heathlands. It is wonderfully quiet here, so you can completely clear your head.
