Castle route around Dalfsen

Discover the beautiful wooded area of Dalfsen by bike, and you will see that this area is not only popular among cyclists. Centuries ago, noble families and wealthy merchants liked to acquire a residence in this beautiful area around the Overijsselsche Vecht. Start in Dalfsen near the stately station building. If you cycle from there along the river towards the east and cross the Vecht with the foot ferry, you will soon arrive at Landgoed Hessum and Landgoed Vilsteren. The residents of Vilsteren still pay rent to the owners of the estate. Cross the beautiful nature reserves the Vilsterse Veld and therechterense Veld to arrive at Kasteelrechteren. The rolling nature reserves combine heathlands and coniferous forests with deciduous forests and drifting sand areas. Enjoy the beautiful landscaped gardens in the estates that await you. The route ends with a visit to Huis De Ruitenborgh and the impressive country estate De Leemcule. You are guaranteed to go home with wonderful memories! Most of these houses and castles are still inhabited, so they cannot be visited, but fortunately most of the estates around them can be visited. This way you can admire the houses from a distance!
