It is wonderful to walk along the river Dommel. This route takes you to the Dommeldal in the vicinity of Borkel in Brabant, near the Belgian border. A varied walk through woods and old meadows.
Ancient landscape
The Dommel is a river that originates near Peer in Belgium and flows into the Netherlands at Borkel. The river still meanders here as it used to. In the meadows you see moist meadows and hay meadows with orchids and special plants such as swamp cartel leaf. The smaller plots were already parceled out in the Middle Ages, in some places they are still separated by wooded banks. The woods are a bit younger, you walk past pedunculate oaks, willows and silver birches.
Kempian tranquility
It is remarkably quiet in this outlying area, even by Brabant standards. This makes it extra easy to clear your head completely with this walk. In Borkel you will pass the Sint Antonius Abt, a flour mill from 1865.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
