Walk from the Johanneshoeve

From De Johanneshoeve you can take a nice walk through the outskirts of Westerhaar. You immediately notice that you are walking through a former peat area: the roads are straight and often perpendicular to each other. On low-traffic roads you walk past meadows and fields. It is nice and quiet here, ideal to take your mind off things for a while. At junction C67 you turn off and walk through a small peat area. You walk partly on a bat path. Walking along the Oosterveenweg you will see the Connection Pipeline. This canal was constructed to drain the former peat area. From junction H50 you walk along the Engbertsdijksvenen. You walk on the Katerjanspad: a name that recalls a man who lived in a hut on the edge of this nature reserve until 1980.
