Walking route of discovery

The Oisterwijkse Bossen en Vennen nature reserve may seem centuries old, but it was an extensive heathland for centuries. Only at the beginning of the nineteenth century were Scots pines planted for mining and shipbuilding. Initially you follow the Rosep: a small river that has retained its meandering course here. Every now and then you have views from the path over meadows and fields. Just before junction 2 you pass an authentic farmhouse from the early nineteenth century. The building is in the top 100 of national monuments! Further on you look out over the Kolkven. This fen was carved out by the swirling water of an old meltwater river. Grab a bench and enjoy the silence before walking back to Pannenkoekenhuis De Ontking. Time for a tasty snack!
