Cycling to the Rhine at Rees

Camping't Zwaantje is an ideal base for a cycling tour through Germany. This route takes you south to the Rhine. Shortly after boarding you will pass Landfort, a fifteenth-century country estate. The country house was extensively renovated in the eighteenth century. You cross the border, after which you cycle through the forests below Anholt. You drive to the Hetter-Millinger Bruch on car-free roads. This nature reserve is located in a low plain that used to be intersected by channels of the Rhine. Now you see a mix of wet meadows, ditches and hedges. Via Millingen and Haldern you arrive in Rees, a former fortified town on the Rhine. Just past junction 83 you pass Hueth Castle, the remains of a medieval moated castle. You cross the border again near Megchelen.
