Round Weerribben-Wieden past Steenwijk and Giethoorn

This cycling route starts at Hotel Cafe Restaurant Het Rietershuijs in Kalenberg. From here you cycle straight through the Weerribben-Wieden to Buitencentrum Weerribben. Be sure to visit here because the exhibition and video presentation will tell you everything about the creation and maintenance of this nature reserve. When you cycle through the Weerribben you will pass the characteristic dyers' houses. Peat makers used to live here with their entire families. In the winter they earned their money by cutting reeds and digging peat in the swamp area. You will also cycle past Tjasker mills that were used to lower the water level. The route also takes you through the water village of Giethoorn. Back you cycle through the Zuiderzee town of Blokzijl. Please note: to use the ferry along the way, the costs are €1.20 per person.
