Description

With this route you can see countless beautiful country places. On our Instagram or Facebook @florabatava you can find a video about all the beautiful country houses in the Vecht region, of which you will also see a lot during this route. You start this route at Hotel Flora Batava. The first country estate you will see is Vechtvliet country estate . This country estate was built in the second part of the 17th century. And in the 18th and 19th centuries, the house was radically renovated into the current country house. Next you will see an old castle. Nijenrode University , Nijenrode was built in 1275 and nowadays serves as a business university. When you continue cycling you will pass the Slangevegt country estate . Slangevegt was built at the beginning of the 18th century and is named after the river Vecht, which meanders through the landscape like a snake. Slangevegt now serves as a restaurant. Then you cycle through the village of Maarssen and cross the Vecht. Buitenplaats Doornburgh is a country estate from the 17th century. A beautiful park surrounds the country house. Part of this country estate is a former monastery where exhibitions are now held. Then you arrive at the Goudestein country estate . Buitenplaats Goudestein is one of the first country estates that was built along the Vecht in 1628. In 1754 the new Goudestein was built. Follow the road and arrive at Buitenplaats Cromwijck . Cromwijck is a country estate that was built in 1637. In 1672 the house was destroyed by the French troops, but soon a new house was built after the war with France was over. When you continue the route you will see Ridderhofstad Gunterstein . The castle was built in 1680 on the ruins of a medieval castle from 1300 that was demolished in 1511 to use the stones for something else. Simultaneously with the construction, a park was created, which was partly transformed into an English landscape park in the 19th century. Then continue your route towards the Queekhoven country estate . Queekhoven is a country estate with a castle that was built in the 17th century. Queekhoven has been used over the centuries as a chic French boarding school for boys and as an international music institution. On the other side of the Vecht, you then have a view of four beautiful country estates. Buitenplaats Vijverhof (Flora Batava) , Over-Holland , Buitenplaats and Park Sterreschans and Rupelmonde . Sterreschans originated in the 17th century and has been inhabited since 1688. Rupelmonde is a historic country estate and is named after a Belgian village. The main building was enlarged around 1750. You then cycle to the village of Loenen. Here are several country estates, including beautiful Vechtlust . Here you cross the river Vecht and cycle again towards Nieuwersluis. You will pass the beautiful Vredenhoff country estate . This country estate is best known for its entrance gate and its beautiful garden and park layout. You cycle down the route and you are back at Flora Batava. Hope you enjoyed your bike ride.
