Bartje is a well-known novel character by the Drenthe writer Anne de Vries. This route takes you past the Het Dorp van Bartje museum and through the Drentsche Aa National Landscape, the best-preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. Your route starts at Pannenkoekenboerderij Brinkzicht, in the middle of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. This area offers you a fascinating view of Drenthe in the past. Where almost every other area in the Netherlands was overhauled, people took the landscape here as it was, so that it has hardly changed in 150 years. You cycle through a backdrop of grasslands, bushes, hedgerows and heaths. For example, you can still see many old Saxon farms in the authentic green village of Gasteren. The Asserbos is a remaining part of ancient forests.
