Description

Bartje is a well-known novel character of the Drenthe writer Anne de Vries. This route takes you past museum Het Dorp van Bartje and through National Landscape Drentsche Aa, the best preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. Your route starts at Pannenkoekenboerderij Brinkzicht, in the middle of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. This area offers you a fascinating view of the Drenthe of the past. Where in the Netherlands almost every other area was being overhauled, people took the landscape here as it was, so that it has hardly changed in 150 years. You cycle through a backdrop of grasslands, bushes, hedgerows and heaths. In the authentic green village of Gasteren, for example, you can still see many old Saxon farms. The Asserbos is a remaining piece of ancient forests.
