There is a green belt around Eelde-Paterswolde that consists of several stately old estates. This walk takes you from Eelde through the Vosbergen Estate.
Vosbergen estate
Vosbergen is the youngest of the Eelder estates, it was founded in 1890. In the villa you will find Museum Vosbergen with a collection of around 800 musical instruments. Violin maker Dick Verel created the collection and restored many instruments himself. The Vosbergen estate forest is decorated in the English landscape style. It is wonderful to walk along the paths lined with shrubs and trees. In summer the imposing beech trees provide cool shade, in autumn they provide beautiful shades.
Moated castle
Hidden in the woods is the archaeological national monument De Waterburcht: a remnant of a fortification surrounded by a moat. The location was probably chosen because of the low-lying and swampy area, which provided water in the canals. The castle could only be reached by land from the northeast and was therefore well defended. In Eelde you will pass the fourteenth-century village church. And then it's time for something tasty on the heated terrace of Café Theater G & A Boelens!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
