Description

On this route you can get a breath of fresh air along the coast and you will be taken along all kinds of historic places around Zandvoort and Haarlem. Zandvoort fisherwomen used to walk barefoot with the fish caught by their tough men to the Vischmarkt in Haarlem. Here they tried to sell the fish. Get on your bike yourself and explore this authentic area.

This cycle route runs along the Spaarne. This used to be an important route for the supply of, among other things, eel from Spaarndam. You will also cycle along the beautiful lake, the Mooi Nel, which is rich in fish and you will cycle through Spaarndam. This village is famous for the many fishermen who lived there. With the reclamation of the IJ, these fishermen left and with it'the smoke from Balm\\\', the typical smell of the eel smokehouses, also disappeared.

You cycle through the flat polder land to the beautiful Landgoed Duin en Kruidberg. This was the former hunting lodge of Stadholder William III. Via the beautiful National Park Zuid-Kennemerland you come to the Visitor Center De Kennemerduinen. A wealth of information about this beautiful park is available here. The last part of the route runs parallel to the sea. Enjoy the fresh sea air and the fishing boats you will undoubtedly see.
