On this route you can enjoy a breath of fresh air along the coast and you will be taken along all kinds of historical places around Zandvoort and Haarlem. Zandvoorter fishermen used to walk barefoot with the fish caught by their tough men to the Vischmarkt in Haarlem. Here they tried to sell the fish. Get on your bike yourself and explore this authentic area.
This cycle route leads along the Spaarne. This used to be an important route for the supply of, among other things, eel from Spaarndam. Furthermore, you cycle along the fish-rich lake De Mooi Nel and you cycle through Spaarndam. This village is famous for the many fishermen who lived there. With the reclamation of the IJ, these fishermen left and with it'the smoke of Balm\\\', the typical smell of the eel smokehouses, also disappeared.
Via the flat polder land you cycle to the beautiful Landgoed Duin en Kruidberg. This was the former hunting lodge of Stadtholder Willem III. Via the beautiful National Park Zuid-Kennemerland you arrive at the Visitor Center De Kennemerduinen. A wealth of information about this beautiful park is available here. The last part of the route runs parallel to the sea. Enjoy the fresh sea air and the fishing boats that you will undoubtedly see.
