The silence of De Kempen Forestry

Walk a few hundred metres into the forests of Boswachterij De Kempen and you immediately get the feeling that the inhabited world is miles away. The endless forests extend over the Belgian border, a wonderful idea. Speaking of Belgium: once upon a time, peddlers went from market to market here with their merchandise in a basket on their backs. When it got dark, smugglers took over with illegal goods. De Pielis is a stream valley where the Goorloop flows. Unique to this paradise in the middle of the forest: it is managed by local farmers. You will see pools and thickets here that serve as food, breeding and shelter for birds and other animals. There are also damp hay meadows, cereal herb plots and flowery grasslands.
