The rippling of the Twente stream valleys around Oud-Ootmarsum

This route takes you to the surroundings of Oud-Ootmarsum, a village in Twente that is known for its fanatical practice of an age-old ball game: the ball shooting. You walk through a coulisse landscape of meadows, fields and hedgerows. You also walk through a part of the Springendal and Dinkeldal nature reserves. A lovely walk to completely relax.

The Garden of the Netherlands
The Springendal is a large nature reserve that is not accessible to motorized traffic. So you will find an unprecedented silence here for Dutch standards. Get your romantic heart here at the streams that splash through the forest. The crystal clear water comes from springs that bubble up from the bottom of the Springendal.

The picturesque Dinkel valley
Not far from the German border you can walk through the Dinkel valley. You walk through an area with deciduous groves, reed beds and moist meadows where marsh and meadow birds such as lapwing, black-tailed godwit and redshank scrape together for a living. In the spring you can hear the call of the rare tree frog here.

The village where time ticks slower
If you stay at Postelhoek, be sure to visit Ootmarsum, an old but lively town. During the Middle Ages, Ootmarsum had a flourishing trade, but industrialization passed by. And you can see that: Ootmarsum has retained its historic character and enjoys a protected village view. So stroll through the beautiful city center at your leisure and let yourself be transported back in time or soak up some culture in one of the many nice galleries.
