The babbling of the Twente stream valleys around Oud-Ootmarsum

This route takes you to the area of Oud-Ootmarsum, a village in Twente that is known for the fanatic practice of a centuries-old ball game: klootschieten. You walk through a coulisse landscape of meadows, fields and hedgerows. You also walk through a part of the nature reserves Springendal and Dinkeldal. A wonderful walk to completely unwind.

The Garden of the Netherlands
The Springendal is a large nature reserve that is not accessible to motorized traffic. You will find an unprecedented silence here by Dutch standards. Indulge your romantic heart here in the streams that babble through the forest. The crystal clear water comes from springs that bubble up from the ground in the Springendal.

The picturesque Dinkeldal
Not far from the German border you can walk through the Dinkeldal. You walk through an area with deciduous forests, reed beds and damp meadows where marsh and meadow birds such as lapwing, black-tailed godwit and redshank forage for their food. In the spring you can hear the call of the rare tree frog here.

The village where time ticks slower
If you stay at Postelhoek, be sure to visit Ootmarsum, an old but lively town. During the Middle Ages, Ootmarsum had a flourishing trade, but saw industrialization pass it by. And it shows: Ootmarsum has managed to retain its historical character and enjoys a protected village view.
