The babbling of the Twente stream valleys around Oud-Ootmarsum

This route takes you to the area around Oud-Ootmarsum, a village in Twente that is known for the fanatical practice of an age-old ball game: klootschoten. You walk through a scenic landscape of meadows, fields and hedgerows. You also walk through parts of the Springendal and Dinkeldal nature reserves. A wonderful walk to completely relax.

The Garden of the Netherlands
The Springendal is a large nature reserve that is not accessible to motorized traffic. So you will find unprecedented silence here by Dutch standards. Enjoy your romantic heart here with the streams that trickle through the forest. The crystal clear water comes from springs that bubble up from the ground in the Springendal.

The picturesque Dinkeldal
Not far from the German border you can walk through the Dinkeldal. You walk through an area with deciduous forests, reed collars and moist meadows where marsh and meadow birds such as lapwings, black-tailed godwits and redshanks forage for their food. In the spring you can hear the call of the rare tree frog here.

The village where time passes more slowly
If you stay at Postelhoek, be sure to visit Ootmarsum, an old but lively town. During the Middle Ages, Ootmarsum had a flourishing trade, but saw industrialization pass it by. And you can see that: Ootmarsum has managed to retain its historic character and enjoys a protected village view. So take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful city center and let yourself be transported back in time or soak up some culture in one of the many nice galleries.
