A tour through the Reestdal

First you drive through the Reestdal. Here you cycle through a landscape where meadows, old hedgerows, ash trees, heathland and forest alternate. The tranquility and unspoilt character of this area sometimes make you forget that you are in the Netherlands. The Reestdal is a true paradise for cycling nature lovers. You pass through Dedemsvaart, you will see some beautiful villas along the water. On the Balkerweg you will pass the former Ommerschans fortress. It was built around 1625 to defend the road in the inaccessible swamp against Spanish troops. In the nineteenth century, the former fortress functioned as a beggars' colony and fell into disrepair. Further on you will pass De Star, a flour mill from 1848. The route ends at Brasserie & Camping Si-Es-An.
