A tour through the Reestdal

First you cycle through the Reestdal. You cycle through a landscape where hayfields, old hedgerows, ash trees, heathland and forest alternate. The peace and the unspoiled character of this area sometimes make you forget that you are in the Netherlands. The Reestdal is therefore a true paradise for cycling nature lovers. You pass through Dedemsvaart, along the water you see several beautiful villas. On the Balkerweg you pass the former fortress Ommerschans. It was built around 1625 to defend the road in the inaccessible swamp against the Spanish troops. In the nineteenth century, the former fortress functioned as a beggars' colony and fell into disrepair. Further on you pass De Star, a corn mill from 1848. The route ends at Brasserie & Camping Si-Es-An.
